Enter The Mystery Of 'CRYPTIDS' A Sci-Fi Drama Podcast

October 05, 2019 by Rod T. Faulkner in Special Feature, Podcast

Cryptids is a seven-part, sci-fi scripted podcast about two truth-seekers obsessed with unraveling a global conspiracy.

Written by Alexander V. Thompson and directed by Devin Shepherd for Wild Obscura Films, Cryptids is the story of Trevor Barnes (voiced by Thompson), the host of a radio show popular with believers in cryptozoology, and Eve Fallon (voiced by Marianna McClellen), a pediatric hospice nurse who is also a true believer.

Due to her profession, Eve deals with death on a frequent basis. She believes there is something… beyond, but she is searching for proof. She listens to Trevor’s radio show “Eyes To The Skies” to help her cope with the stressors of her job.

After suffering a traumatic loss, Eve seeks out Trevor in hopes he will join her on a quest to find out the truth regarding one of humanity’s oldest existential questions - are souls real, and if so, what happens to them after death?

What the duo eventually stumble upon is the greatest conspiracy in all of human history.

Cryptids is a darkly captivating and moody sci-fi mystery that exists in the same thematic space as iconic television series The X-Files and Fringe.

It explores similar territory as those sci-fi TV classics, but firmly establishes its own dramatic ground via its medium. Listeners are engaged on a more intimate level with the narrative because the characters and events presented must be conjured in the imagination since there are no explicit visuals.

This intense level of engagement is achieved due to Cryptids’ compelling premise, exceptional voice acting, and lush sound design.

There is a reason scripted podcasts are emerging as one of the most popular segments of the medium. Long before the internet, television, films, and books, we consumed stories aurally, around communal campfires.

Scripted podcasts are the 21st century equivalent of the campfire story experience, and Cryptids is a very worthy addition to that tradition.

Cryptids is available via Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you listen to your favorite podcasts.
