Sci-Fi Short Film Spotlight: RESIGNATION
The world is in peril.
An enormous celestial object of apparently extraterrestrial design is on a collision course with earth. The world's governments are powerless to stop it, and global panic is beginning to take hold.
Against this apocalyptic backdrop, a mysterious man takes off on a solitary road trip to face his own personal reckoning.
Written and directed by Mike Ozmun, RESIGNATION is the epitome of more introspective and meditative science fiction, similar in tone to films like The Arrival and the 1984 classic Starman.
Those movies relied more on ruminations about the human experience and our place in the universe to provide dramatic tension, rather than invading aliens, laser weapons, and spaceship battles.
RESIGNATION is beautifully written, directed, and acted. It is also jaw-droppingly gorgeous. Having been filmed on location in Big Bend National Park, Austin, Texas, cinematographer Daniel Vestal exploits the rugged beauty of the American Southwest to give the short a real sense of grandeur and awe.
