The award-winning horror short film VICIOUS tells the story of Lydia, a young woman grieving the loss of her sister.
One night as Lydia returns home, she realizes something is amiss.
Someone, or something may be in the house with her.
VICIOUS is a throwback to classic, bone-chilling, psychological horror films.
Writer and director Oliver Park takes the well-trod genre trope of a young woman home alone at night and - with stylish flair - infuses it with a palpable sense of dread.
He masterfully subverts the adage of our home being our sanctuary. In the film, the home is transformed into a forbidding place full of menace.
Familiar sounds like the creak of a floorboard, the opening/closing of a door, or a leaky faucet, are used to create anxiety and tension.
Speaking of sounds, I would be remiss if I didn't point out the superb musical score by Red Panda Audio enhances every dramatic beat of the film.
You definitely want to watch VICIOUS with headphones on, and the lights out!
Another of the film's highlights is Rachel Winters' performance as the besieged Lydia.
Ms. Winters adroitly conveys sorrow and trepidation without uttering much dialogue - a skill that is key to the success of this thriller.
