As Jim frantically searches for his daughter, he discovers his world is not what it seems. He falls down a rabbit hole populated by shadowy forces possessing unimaginable power and murky agendas.

And Jim and his daughter are caught in the center of it all.

The writer and director of DISPEL, Kylie Eaton, was generous with her time in speaking to us regarding the inspiration behind the fantasy short, as well as what went into its production.

She also shares how she recruited the impressive cast for the project - most notably young actress Eris Baker (This Is Us) and genre TV icon Gina Torres (Firefly, Pearson).

Kylie also discusses her involvement with the Alliance Of Women Directors, an organization created to provide support, mentorship, and networking opportunities to women filmmakers.

ZELOS is the kind of sci-fi story that would make a perfect episode of the hit anthology television series Black Mirror.

Set in the not-too-distant future, the short film tells the story of Maria, a woman who seems to have a storybook life.

However, appearances can be deceiving as it is revealed Maria is feeling overwhelmed by the responsibilities of both her personal and professional life.

When a corporation begins selling to its clients their exact genetic clones, Maria purchases a clone of herself thinking she has found the perfect solution to all her problems.

She could not be more wrong.

Episode (66) Modern Fantasy Short Film SELKIE

Written and directed by filmmaker Amy Frear, SELKIE is a modern fantasy short film centering a creature from Irish, Scottish, and Scandinavian myth.

According to the lore, selkies are sea creatures resembling seals who can shed their skin and change into human form in order to walk on land.

In the short film, one such entity follows a school of herring up the Delaware River. Curious about the surroundings, it sheds its seal-skin and transforms into a human woman to explore.

A man discovers the seal-skin and steals it, trapping the selkie in its human form. It then becomes the man’s reluctant girlfriend in an attempt to regain its skin in order to escape back to the sea.

The short film is a beautiful and haunting metaphor for being entangled in an unhealthy relationship.

THE TRUE HEROINES is a web series that combines the period drama of Mad Men, the female power of Charmed, and the superhero adventure of Heroes to create a sensational narrative unique unto itself.

The series chronicles three women, Dottie, Pearl, and Margie, who are close friends and share a collective secret: they each were granted superpowers by a mysterious corporation during the Second World War and were secret agents for the Allied Forces.

The series opens at the end of the war during the beginning of the 1950s. Each of the three women are newly married and attempting to acclimate to domestic, suburban life.

However, the women soon realize they are now being hunted by sinister forces for unfathomable reasons.

The short film is based on a short story by lauded author Ken Liu. It was adapted to screen and directed by accomplished filmmaker Cameo Wood.

During our interview with Wood, she discusses her inspiration for adapting Liu’s short story to film. She also shares her unique perspective on the impact emerging technologies like artificial intelligence and virtual reality are having on our daily lives - and how that influence may affect how art is both created and consumed.

STATIC is the hit viral unofficial fan film about the titular character, an African-American teenage superhero first introduced into popular culture in the 1990s by the groundbreaking comic book publisher Milestone Comics.

The fan film was made on a micro-budget of $3,000 and filmed in St. Louis, Missouri.

Since its release on May 10, 2019, the film - as of the date this podcast - has amassed nearly 700,000 views on YouTube.
